well, the number of registrations nation-wide have finally crossed 100 and there are teams from 17 different states.
we`ve prepared the questions for the first round and they`ll be sent out shortly; the teams will also be invited to the mailing lists shortly. Special thanks to Shobhit(he`s been doing call-centre-duties this past week) and Vamsi for helping about with the publicity and administration.

status update

well, its been a long time since my last rant, so i figured id write bout whats being going on over here. we`re currently working on the first round of questions for the contest; the last round is pretty much done, i spose(oh, which reminds me, i have`nt mailed thoppai the last service!). yeah, so there`ll be 5 services for your last round… but there might be these last minute changes on them. something tells me we mite have to tweak the ‘difficulty-notch’ a bit.

rite now i`m at the hostel, having a swollen eye(i`ll never get used to no-sleep; can`t believe i`m STILL typing out this crap!).
Anyway, the second round is being worked on by radhesh, he`ll set a framework and hopefully we should be able to plugin levels to it easily. the number of volunteers in increasing and we`re having a slightly better time managing things than about a week back.
i`ve been working on django recently and so has radhesh; we found it damn amazing. i`ve also been through web2py in the last few days but it did`nt really impress me though. guess we`ll stick on to django for a loooong time from now on. none of us are really that into web development; so i guess we`re all looking at an quick-development-and-deployment type MVC framework.

InCTF – India’s first Ethical Hacking contest

Amrita University & TIFAC CORE in association with VeriSign proudly present InCTF’10, India’s First National “Capture the Flag” Style Ethical HACKING contest.

InCTF’10 is from February to March 2010 and is focused exclusively on promoting Cyber Security among the student community. You can participate from your own university and no travel is required. No prior exposure or experience in cyber security needed to participate.

Prerequisites

Familiarity with any programming language.
Working knowledge of any GNU/Linux OS is highly desirable but not necessary

Learn essential skills as you participate!!

What you need to do?

(a) Form a team (max five members from your college)
(b) Approach a faculty/mentor and request him/her to mentor your team
(c) Register online at http://inctf.amrita.ac.in/register.php
(d) Send a demand draft for and amount of Rs. 150/- per team to the address mentioned.

The ctf site refurnished

After a gruelling 2 weeks getting the inCTF site up and running, and finishing the design of the poster, i decided to take a break by absconding to Bombay When I came back today, I was amazed to see the site almost done fully furnished with the required info and also a new addition to our sponsors :- InfoSecurity Magazine. I am relieved at this, and also now faced with the daunting tasks of getting together with the guys and finishing off the Preliminary round preps.

I now call it Project #Brainstorm

I know this sounds like some CIA operation code, but i guess thats what gets us going #someExcitement

Night at the ARL

yeah, maybe it sounds a lot too like “night at the museum” ; but its just purely coincidental. its half past eleven, and we`re currently working on the InCTF site which has to be “up” by tomorrow. The services and the preparations for the last round are almost over; but its the screening rounds which need to be taken care of.

Speaking of “screening” rounds; i just happen to recall the last night where muttal, Goo and myself had sat down trying to make a few questions for the initial screening rounds of the CTF. What started off as a brainstorming session ended up with us typing out questions with each of us making fun of the others weaknesses and past blunders.
